Italian wine to take center stage in Hanoi & HCMC

Phuong Hoa

Valpolicella wine to be introduced to Vietnamese wine-lovers at events in two cities on December 5 and 7.

A host of events with the theme “Valpolicella wine specialist contest & wine tasting masterclass” are to be organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ICHAM) in collaboration with the Valpolicella Wine Association, under the auspices of the Italian Embassy in Vietnam and the Italian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City on December 5 in Hanoi and December 7 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The program will see the participation of H.E. Antonio Alessandro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Vietnam, Mr. Enrico Padula, Consul-General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Michele D’Ercole, President of ICHAM, Mr. Francesco Arcuri, Head of the Economic and Commercial Department at the Italian Embassy, and experts from the Valpolicella Wine Association.

The events are being held in response to the 7th World Italian Food Week and aim to promote and raise awareness about Italy’s famous wine-producing region, Valpolicella, among culinary experts and Vietnamese consumers.

Italy was the world leader in wine production last year, with the Veneto region being home to Valpolicella wine producers. This region has exported nearly 73.6 million bottles of Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) to many countries around the world, primarily the US, Switzerland, and Canada, with 11 per cent of the total each, and the UK and Germany with 10 per cent each.

Italian wine has grown in fame and popularity in Vietnam over recent years, but understanding about Italian wine in general and Valpolicella wine in particular remains limited.

Through these events, importers, distributors, the media, and KOLs in Vietnam’s F&B field will have the opportunity to learn of the history, climate characteristics, and soil of production areas as well as the main varieties of Valpolicella wine.

Along with the Competition to Find Valpolicella Wine Experts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, two representatives will be selected to attend the Valpolicella Advanced Training Course in Italy. The Valpolicella Wine Association will also bring the highest quality wines to the Valpolicella Wine Tasting Masterclass, to help participants directly experience the greatness of some of the best wines from Italy.
