ACV proposes second runway for Long Thanh airport
Additional runway would help ensure airport’s non-stop operations.
Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the investor in Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province, has proposed that a second runway be built.
ACV Director General Vu The Phiet said construction of contract packages in the first phase of the airport had basically met the schedule.
The first runway is set for completion on April 30, 2025, three months ahead of schedule.
Construction of a second runway is necessary to ensure the non-stop operations of the airport in case its first runway is forced to close.
Long Thanh International Airport has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($13.74 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
The first phase has total investment of nearly VND110 trillion ($4.48 billion), with construction of a passenger terminal and runway getting underway last August.
The terminal will be able to cater to 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
