Thanks to suitable weather and control over the pandemic, Vietnam’s tourism industry recorded many positives during the 2022 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

Popular destinations in 35 localities around the country welcomed some 6.2 million domestic tourists, with provinces such as Tay Ninh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau in the south and An Giang in the Mekong Delta taking the lead. The capital Hanoi welcomed more than 105,000 visitors.

Bookings in tourism areas and attractions in northern Lao Cai province increased sharply, with those in the popular hill town of Sa Pa representing about 90 per cent of capacity. It is estimated that Lao Cai welcomed over 70,000 visitors in total, an increase of 25,000 compared to last year’s Tet holiday. Neighboring Ha Giang province welcomed over 365,000 visitors, while northern Quang Ninh province, home of Ha Long Bay, welcomed over 40,000 on the first two days of the Lunar New Year.

The number of tourists visiting central Da Nang city was estimated at 35,939, up 16.71 per cent compared to Tet in 2021, while 300,000 domestic and foreign tourists visited Ho Chi Minh City. Southern Tay Ninh province led the country, welcoming 595,000 visitors, while some 80,000 tourists visited the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province.

According to tourism businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, the number of tourists from all around the country increased significantly, which is a good sign for the industry’s recovery.
