Bac Lieu set to become a national center for renewable energy exports
The Mekong Delta province aims to mobilize approximately VND400-450 trillion in investment capital between 2021-2030
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has signed Prime Ministerial Decision No. 968/QD-TTg, outlining the implementation plan for the mastering planning for the development of Bac Lieu province from 2021 to 2030, with a vision extending to 2050.
The master planning had been approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No 1598/QD-TTg, dated December 8, 2023.
The primary objective of the implementation plan is to position the Mekong Delta province as a national center for renewable energy exports and to establish Bac Lieu city and its surrounding areas as a renowned tourism destination.
To achieve these goals, the plan prioritizes the development of strategic transportation infrastructure, enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic growth corridors.
The province will also focus on attracting investment in renewable energy, new energy, agricultural and fishery processing, industrial zones and clusters, information and communication infrastructure, and agricultural and fishery product value chains.
Under the implementation plan, Bac Lieu province must mobilize approximately VND400-450 trillion ($16.3 - 18.3 billion) in investment capital between 2021 and 2030, targeting an average annual GRDP growth rate of 11.5% in the period.
The province will actively encourage public-private partnerships and other investment forms, both domestically and internationally, to secure funding for infrastructure development and production projects.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Institute of Strategic Research and Industry Policy, Bac Lieu province is currently the country's leading wind power producer, with over 1 billion kWh contributed to the national grid since early February 2020.
The province has so far successfully implemented eight wind power projects with a combined capacity of nearly 500 MW.
