The third national forum on developing local digital enterprises, which was attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, was held on December 11. During the morning session, analysts and business insiders agreed that digital transformation and the application of “Make in Vietnam” digital technology platforms will be important factors that create a driving force for Vietnam’s economic recovery and development.

Digital technology businesses have been and will help other industries and fields recover and develop, analysts told the gathering.

The electricity and energy sector has adopted digital transformation, with over 29.5 million digitized agreements and over 19 million digitized electric meters being installed around the country, putting Vietnam among ASEAN countries with a highest rate of such meters. Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has also issued digital bills and promoted connections with banks and payment providers to accept cashless payments, according to Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy Director of EVN.

In tourism, Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that during the pandemic, the sector was encouraged to continue implementing its digital transformation. Prior to the outbreak of Covid-19, the sector had built a database of 3 to 5-star hotels, domestic and international tour guides, and travel agencies.

Many localities have put their destinations on digital platforms, such as Hanoi, with Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature), Da Nang, with the Da Nang Tourism app, and Hue, with a virtual reality tour of the Imperial Citadel. At the same time, businesses have management and sales applications in the digital environment, such as Vietravel and Flamingo.

In the process of digital development and transformation, “Make in Vietnam” digital platforms are emphasized as being an important factor in ensuring the smooth operations of organizations and businesses. “Make in Vietnam” products are flexible and ready to accompany businesses. Domestic products also come at a lower cost and are easier to use compared to foreign products, which have language, time, and cultural barriers.
