The project is slated to commence in 2024-2025 and is expected to be fully operational by 2034.
Hanoi is set to embark on a major infrastructure project with the construction of Urban Railway Line No 2.
Under the project, this new line will connect the city center to Noi Bai international airport.
The project is slated to commence in 2024-2025 and is expected to be fully operational by 2034. A significant portion of the line, the Nam Thang Long - Noi Bai segment, is scheduled for completion by 2030.
According to the feasibility study approved by Hanoi People's Committee, the 11.5-km line will comprise both elevated and underground sections. A 17.5-ha depot will be established in Xuan Dinh Ward, Bac Tu Liem District.
The line will feature 10 stations, including three elevated and seven underground stations. It will pass through several major roads, including Nguyen Van Huyen, Hoang Quoc Viet, Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue, Phan Dinh Phung, Hang Giay, Hang Duong, Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Dinh Tien Hoang, and Hang Bai.
Mr. Le Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, highlighted the significance of Urban Railway Line No 2 as a crucial project for the city's transportation and environmental sustainability.
The line will not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to the city's tourism and urban development, he noted.
Furthermore, the line will serve as a vital link in Hanoi's expanding urban railway network, connecting with 15 planned lines. This strategic positioning underscores the project's importance and prioritization.
In addition, Hanoi has outlined plans for Urban Railway Line No 6, which will connect Ngoc Hoi to Noi Bai Airport. This 43-km line is scheduled for completion by 2035.
