Construction of Tu Lien bridge crossing Red River and a road connecting the bridge with the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen expressway is scheduled to start this year, according to Hanoi authorities.

The cable-stayed bridge has a total length of 2.9 km, linking the capital's Tay Ho district with its suburban Dong Anh district.

The road connecting the bridge with the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen expressway is 11.5 km long.

The project will be built in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) with an estimated investment capital of nearly VND20 trillion ($785 million).

The city also plans to kick off construction of Tran Hung Dao bridge crossing the Red River this year. Total investment capital for the 5.6-km bridge is estimated at over VND16 trillion ($628 million).

Hanoi is expected to eventually have 18 bridges over the Red River, with 9 bridges already in service and 9 in the planning process.
