Hanoi's $48 mln road project opens to traffic

Nguyen Van Cu - Ngoc Thuy road in Hanoi's Long Bien district was opened to traffic on October 5 as part of the capital city's activities in celebration of 70th anniversary of its Liberation (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

The investment capital for the new thoroughfare was estimated at nearly VND1.2 trillion ($48.4 million), including site clearance and compensation costs.

It connects Nguyen Van Cu Street to Ngoc Thuy Dyke and is considered the district's most visually appealing road.

Spanning 1.52 km, the road features a 40-m-wide cross-section and a 211-m-long overpass.

The project required the relocation of 176 households out of a total of 485 affected properties, according to Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, deputy head of the Long Bien project management board.

Construction began in 2018 but faced delays due to site clearance challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The completed road now serves as a vital traffic link between the Dong Tru Bridge area and the Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri, and Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway bridges.
