Ho Chi Minh City's Khanh Hoi Port renovation project is a cornerstone of the city's ambitious plans to revitalize its waterfront and enhance its economic and cultural landscape.

To be implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding  between the city Department of Planning and Architecture and the French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADEME), the project aims to redevelop the port into a modern, multi-functional hub that integrates environmental sustainability, commerce, tourism, and heritage preservation.

A key objective of the project is to upgrade Khanh Hoi Port to accommodate the growing number of international cruise ships, thereby boosting the city's maritime tourism industry.

Additionally, the port's redevelopment will promote waterway traffic within Ho Chi Minh City, connecting urban and suburban areas.

Successful implementation of this project will not only generate significant economic benefits for the city but also create lucrative opportunities for investors and financial institutions involved.

As envisioned by the municipal Department of Planning and Architecture, the redeveloped port will become a mixed-use area, incorporating innovation, digital technology, circular economy principles, logistics services, tourism, entertainment, and cultural activities, said Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, a representative from the department.

However, Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh from the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association, highlighted the crucial need to consider the clearance height of the future Thu Thiem 4 Bridge when developing the port area.

The bridge's height will determine whether the port can accommodate larger passenger ships, he said.

Mr. Ngo Anh Vu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Planning Institute, emphasized the importance of careful land use planning due to the limited space available. He said that the redevelopment of the port area should seamlessly integrate with the densely populated residential areas behind it, preserving cultural elements and ensuring a harmonious urban environment.
