HCMC releases rural tourism development plan by 2025
The plan aims to digitize and connect 100% of recognized rural tourism destinations to digital tourism promotion platforms.
Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee has unveiled a comprehensive plan to promote rural tourism and diversify the city's tourism offerings by 2025.
The plan outlines several key objectives, including developing at least one agricultural/eco-tourism product or destination in each district (Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, and Can Gio); achieving a 3-star or higher OCOP rating for at least 50% of these products; and establishing two pilot models for green, responsible, and sustainable rural tourism aligned with new rural area development.
Additionally, the plan aims to digitize and connect 100% of recognized rural tourism destinations to digital tourism promotion platforms; promote and advertise 100% of rural tourism destinations; adopt e-commerce for tourism activities in 50% of rural tourism destinations; train 70% of rural tourism owners in tourism management and 80% of workers in customer service, including at least 50% of female workers and one foreign language-proficient employee per destination. An updated database on rural tourism products and destinations, including an OCOP product map, will also be established.
To achieve these objectives, the plan identifies seven key tasks: develop rural tourism development policies and mechanisms; raise awareness through promotion and communication; invest in and develop rural tourism products in Ho Chi Minh City; develop high-quality human resources; promote city-wide tourism and communication; apply technology and digital transformation; and foster collaboration and partnerships for rural tourism development.
