Huge potential remains for cooperation between Vietnam & Canada

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has suggested that Vietnam and Canada continue to boost cooperation in spearhead sectors such as the economy, trade, investment, and science and technology, the Government News has reported.

During a reception for visiting Canadian Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen in Hanoi on January 8, Prime Minister Chinh said these sectors are strengths of Canada and meet Vietnam’s requirements.

The two sides agreed that there remains huge potential for development cooperation between the two countries.

Canada is Vietnam’s third-largest trade partner, while Vietnam is Canada’s largest trade partner in ASEAN.

Two-way trade turnover stood at $6.17 billion in 2023.

Canada is also Vietnam’s 14th-largest investor, with 247 projects and capital of $4.82 billion.

Minister Hussen emphasized that Vietnam is a priority partner of Canada and plays an important role in its Indo-Pacific strategy.
