Vietnam aims for $5 bln trade with China's Yunnan
Yunnan hopes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in areas of the locality’s strengths such as green energy, distinctive plateau agriculture, and tourism.
During his meeting with Mr. Wang Ning, Secretary of the Yunnan provincial Party Committee, in Kunming on November 6, as part of hif working visit to China, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed to increase bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and China’s Yunnan province to $5 billion.
The PM also envisioned establishing Vietnam’s Lao Cai province and Yunnan as pivotal hubs for trade connectivity between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He proposed the development of a smart border gate model, emphasized coordination in flood discharge regulation and disaster prevention, and advocated for streamlining procedures for Vietnamese living in Yunnan.
The Vietnamese Government leader also expressed his hope for close cooperation in managing and protecting the border, aligning with the three land border agreements and related accords between Vietnam and China.
He underscored the importance of commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam-China border treaty and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the three legal documents this year.
Mr. Wang, for his part, highlighted the need for strengthening exchanges at all levels and enhancing the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly the meetings among Party Secretaries of the five bordering provinces.
He emphasized the importance of deepening economic and trade cooperation, maximizing the potential of railway projects connecting the two countries, and improving infrastructure connectivity in both rail and road networks.
Yunnan, Mr. Wang noted, aims to foster cooperation with Vietnam in areas of its strengths, including green energy, distinctive plateau agriculture, and tourism.
The province also seeks to bolster collaboration in economy, trade, border economy, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Furthermore, Yunnan expresses keen interest in cooperating with Vietnam in personnel training, poverty reduction, environmental protection, sustainable development, healthcare, culture, and education, contributing to the strengthening of the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
