Garment exports to Australia continue upwards

In the context of Vietnam’s textile and garment sector experiencing a period of decline, exports of such products to Australia have been continually increasing.

Vietnam’s exports of textile and garment products to Australia in the first ten months of the year rose 8 per cent year-on-year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Though Australia has cut import volumes of such products from many countries, those from Vietnam still rose, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.

Australia’s total textile and garment imports in the first nine months fell 11.5 per cent year-on-year, while imports from Vietnam surged 10 per cent.

Vietnam’s textile and garment products have become more popular among Australian consumers, leading to an increase in competitiveness compared to other countries. Prior to Covid-19, its imports from China and Bangladesh, the two biggest textile and garment suppliers to the country, increased 2.03 per cent and 2.72 per cent, annually. However, its imports from Vietnam rose 11.08 per cent annually.

The market share of Vietnamese textile and garment products grew from 3.38 per cent in 2016 to 4.73 per cent in 2020.
