The airport is expected to be upgraded to handle 10 million passengers and 50,000 tons of cargo annually.

The People’s Committee of central Da Nang City has approved an investment policy for upgrading Chu Lai Airport under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The committee has proposed that the Ministry of Construction seek the Prime Minister's approval to assign Da Nang City to conduct a feasibility study for the project.

Under the national airport development master plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Chu Lai Airport is expected to be upgraded to handle 10 million passengers and 50,000 tons of cargo annually.

Looking further ahead to 2050, the airport will be expanded to include two additional passenger terminals, T3 and T4, each with a capacity of 10 million passengers per year, along with a cargo terminal system capable of handling 3 million tons of freight annually.

The Ministry of Construction and Da Nang authorities recently conducted a joint review of the regional airport infrastructure following the administrative merger between the former Da Nang City and the former province of Quang Nam. As a result, priority will be given to upgrading Chu Lai Airport to relieve growing infrastructure pressure on Da Nang International Airport.
