Quang Ngai proovince proposes over $76 mln to upgrade National Highway 24
Stretching over 168 km, National Highway 24 serves as a vital artery connecting the administrative center of Quang Ngai province, Dung Quat Port, and National Highway 1 with the Ho Chi Minh Highway, the northern Central Highlands, and southern Laos.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province in central Vietnam, has signed a formal request to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction, seeking for budget from the Central Government to upgrade and expand National Highway 24, which runs through the province.
The province has designated the project as critically urgent, citing the highway's strategic role in connecting transportation, boosting socio-economic development, and ensuring regional defense and security.
Stretching over 168 km, National Highway 24 serves as a vital artery connecting the administrative center of Quang Ngai province, Dung Quat Port, and National Highway 1 with the Ho Chi Minh Highway, the northern Central Highlands, and southern Laos.
However, a significant section of over 57 km, from Km32 to Km89 (passing through the former districts of Ba To and Kon Plong), remains unimproved. Much of this segment is classified as a Class IV or V mountainous road, with a narrow surface of less than 6 m, making it inadequate for the steadily increasing traffic volume.
The current conditions on this stretch are treacherous. The road is narrow, winding, and steep, particularly on the Vi O Lac Pass, which is frequently shrouded in fog, severely limiting visibility. Furthermore, the road surface is seriously damaged in many places.
These poor conditions not only increase travel times and hinder the transport of goods but also pose a high risk of accidents, placing commuters and vehicles in constant danger.
