Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed authorities of central Quang Tri Province and the investors to accelerate construction of Quang Tri Airport to ensure it is operational by April 30, 2026.

The directive came during his inspection of the construction site on July 27.

Construction of the airport began in July 2024. In its first phase, the airport is designed to serve 500,000 passengers annually, with plans to eventually expand capacity to 5 million passengers per year. The project’s total investment is estimated at more than VND5.82 trillion ($221 million).

On the same day, Prime Minister Chinh visited the construction site of the Van Ninh–Cam Lo Expressway, a key section of the Eastern North–South Expressway. The 65.54-kilometer route carries a total investment of over VND9.9 trillion ($376 million). The Prime Minister urged the investor and relevant agencies to ensure the expressway is completed and operational by August this year as scheduled.

Later, the Prime Minister inspected the My Thuy deep-water port project in Hai An commune. With an estimated investment exceeding VND15 trillion ($570 million), the port will feature 10 berths and be capable of receiving container vessels of up to 100,000 tons. The first two berths are expected to begin operation by March next year.
