Leaders of Da Nang city in central Vietnam have
proposed a collaboration between Da Nang and the State of Oregon (the U.S.), with focus on priority areas such as chip technology, logistics, and the
development of free trade zone (FTZ) infrastructure.
Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Permanent Vice
Chairman of the City People's Committee, made the proposal during a recent reception
for a delegation from Oregon, led by Mr. Daniel Loc Nguyen, Oregon State
Representative, and Chair of the Committee on Economic Development, Trade and
Small Business.
Da Nang expects cooperation between
the US in general, and Oregon in particular, with Da Nang to be strengthened in
areas such as high-tech manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence,
agricultural and food products, forestry and timber, trade, and consulting
services, among others.
Mr. Minh emphasised that with a model of a free trade zone and an international financial center, along with
specific mechanisms, Da Nang will have the conditions for strong breakthroughs
in the coming period.
The city is ready to create
favorable conditions for Oregon businesses to explore its investment
environment, supporting "Lab" models to connect with international
cooperation programs in microchip research, design, packaging, and testing.
Mr. Nguyen affirmed that Oregon
wishes to enhance cooperation and exchange with Da Nang across all sectors,
including those the city prioritizes for development.
Oregon is known as "Silicon
Forest," boasting over 6,000 high-tech businesses, including major
companies like Intel, Tektronix, and HP, with Intel having its largest global
facility located there.
Along with California and Texas,
Oregon is one of the few US states specializing in semiconductor manufacturing.
