Google will officially open its Vietnam office in 2025
Google has confirmed the establishment of Google Vietnam, bringing localized support for advertisers and contributing to the nation’s digital transformation.
Google plans to establish its official presence in Vietnam starting in 2025, according to Google's statement.
Accordingly, starting April 1, 2025, the contractual rights and responsibilities of advertising partners in Vietnam will be transferred from Google Asia Pacific to Google Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Google Vietnam), headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City.
From March 1, 2025, Google Vietnam will take over as the official partner for customers using listed products in Vietnam, replacing Google Singapore.
This change includes direct management of invoicing activities in Vietnam. Payments for services will be processed in Vietnamese dong (VND), with a 10 per cent value-added tax (VAT) applied as per Vietnamese law.
While this new office will focus on business and marketing activities to support domestic corporate clients, Google Asia-Pacific’s headquarters will remain in Singapore.
Responding to questions from VET, a Google's representative shared: "Vietnam’s digital economy is transforming rapidly and it’s been exciting to see how people are using the internet and their tools and services to grow and innovate. We now have a team on the ground to better serve our Vietnam-based advertising customers and support the country's digital transformation."
Vietnam is considered by Google to be a rapidly growing digital economy market, ranking among the top in Southeast Asia. Vietnamese users and the government have shown significant interest in AI this year, according to the company.
In 2024, e-commerce surged at 18 per cent year-over-year reaching $22 billion of gross merchandise value, being the main growth accelerator of the country’s digital economy, according to the e-Conomy SEA 2024 report by Google and its partners.
"Vietnam’s digital economy will grow by an 'astonishing' 11 times in nearly a decade, reaching $220 billion by 2030, around half of its current GDP, and AI is expected to be a key driver of this growth," said Mr. Marc Woo, Managing Director for Vietnam and Google Asia Pacific. "Vietnam is well positioned to take advantage of AI opportunities, with a dynamic startup community, tech-savvy young people accounting for 20 per cent of the total population, and supportive policies from the government."
