Government approves capital increase for Mekong Delta bridge project
Investment increased by $66.6 million for bridge linking Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has approved an adjustment to the investment capital for the construction of the Rach Mieu Bridge 2, spanning the Tien River and linking the Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.
The investment will be increased by VND1.6 trillion ($66.6 million) to VND6.81 trillion ($283 million) in total.
Including approach roads, the project stretches 17.6 km and will have six lanes and a speed limit of 80 kph.
In its proposal sent to the government earlier, the Ministry of Transport said the need for additional capital stems from a rise in the land area in need of site clearance, with a rising number of affected households and higher compensation and other costs.
Tien Giang province has to date handed over 49.43 per cent of the land needed to build the project, while the Ben Tre province has handed over nearly 97 per cent.
The project received approval from the Prime Minister in 2020.
Construction began in March, 2022, and is expected to be completed after three years.
