Project to develop National Data Center approved
Vietnam to reach higher positions in global e-government, information technology, and cybersecurity rankings once the project is completed.
A project on developing the National Data Center has been approved under Government Resolution No. 175/NQ-CP dated October 30.
The Resolution notes that the National Data Center must become an important part of digital infrastructure in service of economic development and social management, in conformity with Vietnamese characteristics.
To be built, managed, exploited, and operated by the government, the Center will integrate, synchronize, store, share, analyze, exploit, and coordinate data from State agencies in line with legal regulations to create a database on people and a general database that collects information from different databases nationwide.
Data from the Center will form the basis for supplying data-related services, helping with policy-making, facilitating development, and contributing to the building of digital government, society, and economy and the safeguarding of national defense and security. It will also provide information technology infrastructure for socio-political organizations, national databases, and agencies with data demand.
In addition, it will use collected and synchronized data to simplify administrative procedures, improve public services for individuals and businesses, and conduct in-depth analyses to assist the government in the management and issuance of social security policies, including those on insurance, healthcare, and education, to help foster social development and progress.
The National Data Center is a prerequisite for boosting the capitalization of national databases to serve socio-economic development and help Vietnam further integrate into the global digital economy.
From 2025, the Center will serve as a hub for connecting with international partners to share information, research and develop strategies on development, and support the development and application of science and technology.
By 2030, it will be completed to perform its role in storing the data of national databases and connecting specialized databases and information systems from the Vietnamese and other countries’ governments to serve activities in cyberspace and protect Vietnam’s legitimate interests.
It is expected that, by 2030, more than 90 per cent of administrative activities relating to information exchange between State agencies will be replaced by digital data from the Center.
Under the project’s targets, by 2030, Vietnam will be one of the top 50 countries in the E-Government Development Index rankings, in the top 30 in the ICT Development Index, and in the top 30 in the Global Cybersecurity Index.
