Vietnam & Cambodia launch bilateral cross-border QR code payments
Customers can now scan QR codes to make payments in the other country using their local currency.
Vietnam and Cambodia have officially launched a bilateral cross-border QR payment link, allowing people from the two countries to scan QR codes and make payments in the other country using their local currency.
The move follows an MoU between the State Bank of Vietnam and the National Bank of Cambodia signed on November 8, 2022.
The payment system enables customers and the public to purchase goods and make payments in Khmer riel (KHR) in Vietnam, while allowing Vietnamese to use Vietnam dong (VND) in Cambodia by scanning KHQR codes provided by approximately 1.8 million Cambodian merchants.
KHQR is a popular QR code system created for retail payments in Cambodia.
