Delays continue for Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway
Only four of eleven bidding packages have been completed to date.
Construction of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, running through the Mekong Delta province of Long An, the southern province of Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City is at risk of further delay.
The Construction Management Department at the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has reported that only four of eleven contract packages have been completed.
Meanwhile, just 67.6 per cent of total construction of the A7 package, one of the remaining seven contract packages, has been completed.
This has led to the possibility of these packages not being completed in 2023 and 2025, as scheduled.
Construction of the 58-km Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway started in 2014. The first phase required VND31.3 trillion ($1.3 billion) in capital.
The project was initially expected to be completed in 2020. It fell behind schedule, however, due to difficulties and problems in site clearance as well as capital arrangements.
The MoT has asked the project investor, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation, to adopt measures to tackle existing problems and speed up construction progress.
