Vietnam and Brazil deepen agricultural partnership with first Beef and fish shipments
PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam and Brazil hold significant potential for agricultural cooperation, citing their large domestic markets, and complementary strengths.
During his trip to Brazil to attend the expanded BRICS Summit and engage in bilateral activities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ơn July 5 (local time) met with Brazilian Minister of Agriculture Carlos Fávaro and witnessed the ceremonial dispatch of the first container of Brazilian beef to Vietnam.
PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam and Brazil hold significant potential for agricultural cooperation, citing their large domestic markets, complementary strengths, and the growing prospect of connectivity through future free trade agreements.
To deepen collaboration, he proposed that the two countries’ agriculture ministries establish a joint working group to ensure the effective implementation of high-level commitments.
Key areas of focus include: further opening markets for each other’s major agricultural products, promoting on-site agricultural investment, developing a joint Vietnam–Brazil coffee brand to strengthen cooperation in coffee production and consumption, and establishing a food security partnership, with Vietnam supplying rice to support Brazil’s food needs.
Minister Carlos Fávaro praised Vietnam’s rich agricultural tradition and the increasing global competitiveness of its agricultural products. He expressed a strong commitment to advancing bilateral agricultural ties, which he described as a cornerstone of the newly formed Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Brazil.
Agreeing with PM Chinh’s proposals, Minister Fávaro expressed his readiness to exchange lists of key agricultural products and collaborate with the Vietnamese side to develop a roadmap for mutual market access.
He also expressed his desire to connect Vietnamese and Brazilian agricultural businesses, aiming to establish a trade and investment partnership focused on developing integrated and complementary agricultural value chains.
This partnership would involve the exchange and transfer of machinery, equipment, and technology for agricultural production and processing, helping both countries enhance productivity and improve the quality of agricultural products.
Both sides agreed to promptly implement the agreed-upon initiatives, aiming to realize the full potential and expectations of their growing agricultural cooperation, a key pillar of the Vietnam–Brazil Strategic Partnership.
PM Chinh said that the first container of Brazilian beef exported to Vietnam, alongside the initial shipment of Vietnamese tra, basa, and tilapia fish to Brazil, is a symbol of trust, mutual benefit, and deepening collaboration between the two countries. He affirmed that these milestones serve as momentum for further strengthening future cooperation.
