The Vietnam International Logistics Exhibition (VILOG) is being organized for the first time in Vietnam by the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA) and Vinexad, under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). The exhibition will take place from August 10-12, 2023 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The coming together of a national association in the logistics industry and a professional organizer with extensive experience and a network of partners is expected to create an event that showcases the development of Vietnam’s logistics industry in line with its inherent potential, and at the same time create a buzz to attract foreign investment, transfer technology, train human resources, and establish a green ecosystem in the logistics industry.

Logistics is one of the fastest-growing and most stable industries in Vietnam, with an average annual growth rate of 14-16 per cent and a scale of $40-42 billion a year. According to an assessment from Agility in 2022, Vietnam is ranked eleventh in the group of 50 global emerging logistics markets.

Thanks to its political and social stability and favorable geographical location, Vietnam is benefiting from a wave of supply chain shifts. It has also taken advantage of its long coastline to build a seaport network with optimal capacity, accompanying its optimistic economic growth rate and stable production. The boom in e-commerce in both export and domestic consumption  helps Vietnam improve its competitiveness to become a transshipment center of the world and a “link” in the global supply chain. The country is expected to become Asia’s “Logistics Star” in the near future.

As well as advantages, there are also certain difficulties and challenges, such as high service costs and increasing pressure on infrastructure. According to analysts, the logistics sector still needs to develop infrastructure connectivity and public-private cooperation to expand into logistics centers and comprehensive supply chains in terms of circulation, processing, preservation, transportation, and distribution.

The exhibition will be a great opportunity for domestic and international logistics service businesses as well as the community of investors, developers, and other stakeholders to cooperate, consult, and identify solutions to optimize the logistics procedures of enterprises.

Main categories at VILOG 2023 will include Transport & Forwarding; Services & Warehouse Systems; Packaging & Cold Chains; and Logistics IT.

More than 200 booths have been booked by over 150 businesses from 16 countries and territories: Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong (China), Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan (China), Turkey, the US, and Vietnam.

One of the most interesting elements of VILOG 2023 is the application of logistics technology. Advances in technology affect all of us in immeasurable ways, especially in logistics, where new technology is rapidly changing the way businesses operate. With consumer demand for faster, cheaper, and more flexible shipping, it is now more important than ever to keep up with developments that shape today’s logistics industry.

In the face of a growing wave of online shopping, investing in and applying logistics technology is considered a solution to help businesses meet the increasing demand for transportation and offer more convenience to consumers.

Visitors to VILOG 2023 will have the opportunity to learn about the latest logistics technology applications, thereby applying technology in the management and circulation of goods to enhance transportation capacity, anticipate increasing demand in the market, and improve the customer experience.

Parcel Performance and iPrice Group conducted a survey of 80,000 e-commerce consumers in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia in 2019. The results show that the main factor currently limiting the growth of e-commerce in Southeast Asian countries is courier services. Consumer satisfaction in online shopping is directly proportional to delivery times, as the longer the delivery time the lower the customer satisfaction. In the five surveyed countries, the average express delivery time in Vietnam was up to 5.6 days, ranking it second in speed, at only 0.2 days behind Malaysia, which means Vietnam’s express service needs to improve a great deal.

That is also why the Cross-Border E-Commerce Expo in Vietnam (CBEE) will be held at the same time as VILOG, which is expected to actively promote the digital transformation of the economy and the development of e-commerce and foreign investment in industrial chains related to e-commerce that are beneficial for promoting the growth of Vietnam’s e-commerce market in general and e-commerce logistics sector in particular.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department at MoIT, said VILOG 2023 aims to implement the tasks set by the Prime Minister. “This is a key activity for Vietnam’s logistics service industry to boost promotion and links to the world, and offers a great opportunity for domestic and international logistics service providers and the community of investors, shippers, and other stakeholders to exchange, cooperate, consult, and choose solutions to optimize the logistics process of enterprises,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Duy Minh, General Secretary of the VLA, said the exhibition will contribute to helping businesses orient their business strategies, find solutions, apply digital technology in improving service and product quality, and promote cooperation between logistics service providers and logistics service users.

VILOG 2023 will be held at the same time and place as the 27th International Food, Beverage & Packaging Exhibition (Vietfood & Beverage - Propack). The intersection between the two exhibitions on F&B and logistics will increase trade efficiency, diversify supply sources, promote competition, and strengthen links between domestic and foreign enterprises.

The “Customs accompanies enterprises to develop logistics activities, improving export competitiveness” seminar held by Customs Review will be an important highlight of a series of specialized forums and conferences held within the framework of the exhibition. Scheduled for August 10 at SECC with the participation of relevant ministries, departments, and representatives from domestic and foreign logistics associations and enterprises, the seminar will provide practical knowledge and useful experience and answer questions from participating businesses.
