Merger of four port authorities to take effect on August 1

The newly consolidated entities will operate under the jurisdiction of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration and are scheduled to officially begin operations under the new structure from August 1.

The Ministry of Construction has issued a decision to merge several maritime port authorities, a move aimed at streamlining the organization and enhancing the management and operational efficiency of the maritime sector, according to a report from the Government News.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority and the Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority will be merged to form the new Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority.

The Da Nang Maritime Port Authority and the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority will be merged to form the new Da Nang Maritime Port Authority.

The newly consolidated entities will operate under the jurisdiction of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration and are scheduled to officially begin operations under the new structure from August 1.

According to the decision, the Director General of the Vietnam Maritime Administration is responsible for organizing and executing all legal procedures related to the mergers.

Following the consolidation, the new Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Port Authority will assume all duties, powers, scope of management, legal responsibilities, and related matters of both the former HCMC and Vung Tau authorities.

Similarly, the new Da Nang Maritime Port Authority will take on the full functions, duties, and powers previously held by the separate Da Nang and Quang Nam authorities.

The consolication is inconformity with the merger of local administrative , units since July 1, 2025, during which, former Ho Chi Minh City and the former provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong have been merged into the new City of Ho Chi Minh; while former Da Nang City and the former province of Quang Nam have been merged into the new City of Da Nang.
