Long Thanh Airport project (phase 1) expected to operate before March 2026
Vietnam's largest airport project to date holds exceptional importance for the socio-economic development of the Southeast region and the entire country.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 3 inspected and urged to accelerate the Long Thanh Airport project in southern Dong Nai province.
He demanded that all work in phase 1 be completed no later than December 31, 2025, in order to put the projected airport (phase 1) into operation before March 2026, emphasizing that no further delays are acceptable.
Long Thanh International Airport is the largest airport project in Vietnam to date, holding exceptional importance for the socio-economic development of Vietnam's Southeast region and the country as a whole.
This was the Prime Minister's fifth on-site inspection of the Long Thanh Airport project, following those conducted after Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays in 2022, 2023, 2024 and September 2024.
Following the site inspection, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting with relevant ministries, agencies, and localities.
Reports at the meeting indicated significant progress in many project components in the two months since the Prime Minister's last visit in September 2024. Many items are on schedule or even ahead of schedule, including its passenger terminal, runway, taxiways, and aprons.
However, achieving the goal of completing the project in 2025 (ahead of the National Assembly's approved timeline) remains a big challenge, requiring maximum effort from all levels, ministries, investors, and contractors to shorten the schedules of the various packages.
In his concluding remarks, PM Chinh assessed the project's progress as very positive. A substantial amount of work has been completed, the project's structure is becoming increasingly clear, and many packages are ahead of schedule, especially components 2 and 3. The construction site mobilizes over 6,000 workers and 2,200 pieces of construction equipment.
