According to the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), logistics costs remain high despite adjustments to oil and gasoline prices, creating difficulties for Vietnamese businesses, especially importers and exporters. Analysts have suggested many solutions to ease logistics costs that are threatening the development of businesses and the economy.
The Vietnam Pepper Association recently sent an official letter to the government asking that it monitor the situation surrounding logistics costs, which are increasing sharply and limiting pepper exports. Logistics costs at some ports have increased six-fold since the end of last year. Many exporters were already paying extra prior to that to secure containers. Though rising logistics prices are generally in line with global movements, import-export enterprises require support from government agencies to reduce other costs, such as road transportation fees, loading and unloading fees, and port storage fees.
