Nikkei Asia’s Covid-19 Recovery Index evaluates 121 countries and territories based on infection management, vaccine rollouts, and social mobility at the end of each month. Vietnam, once a “star” in successfully controlling the pandemic, is now recording a high number of infections and fatalities, and so ranks 121st on the list.
The proportion of high-tech export goods from Vietnam has increased sharply, making the country’s ranking in terms of diversity and sophistication rise four places to 56th. Compared to other countries in the region, Vietnam ranks above Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, but is far behind Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It could be among the world’s leading countries in terms of economic growth by 2027.
