Vietnam is on track to consolidate its position as the world’s second-largest rice exporter in 2025, with shipments expected to reach at least 8 million tons, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

In the first seven months of the year, the country exported 5.5 million tons of rice worth $2.81 billion—an increase of 3.1% in volume compared to the same period last year, though export value fell 15.9%. In July alone, exports totaled around 750,000 tons, bringing in $366.1 million.

The average export price of Vietnamese rice is currently $514 per ton. While lower than in recent years, it remains higher than prices offered by other major suppliers, the VFA noted.

Thailand, traditionally the world’s second-largest rice exporter, is experiencing a sharp downturn, with export volumes dropping 30% year-on-year.

The Philippines remains Vietnam’s largest buyer, accounting for 42.6% of total export revenue.
