The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has asked the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee to take measures to prevent the illegal cross-border transportation of poultry and poultry products into Vietnam.

There have been reports in recent times about poultry and poultry products being transported illegally into Vietnam via the northern province’s border with China.

This poses a high risk of dangerous infectious diseases entering Vietnam and spreading to other localities, affecting the poultry sector and the population’s health, according to MARD.

In May, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a dispatch requiring that ministries, agencies, and localities take measures to prevent and strictly handle cases of illegal poultry imports via borders.
