Under the master plan for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050 for northern Bac Ninh province, which is to be submitted to the Prime Minister for appraisal shortly, by 2030, the province is to be the leading center in Vietnam in processing, manufacturing, and hi-tech services. It currently has the eighth-largest economy in the country and is the center of Vietnam’s electronics industry.

After stagnating for nearly 20 years, the 131-km Yen Vien - Cai Lan railway project, passing through Hanoi and Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, and Quang Ninh provinces, has been reborn, with a Project Management Board reviewing and adjusting the pre-feasibility study for investment in the 2026-2030 period.
The Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Council has approved the construction of a stretch of Hanoi's Ring Road No. 4 in the 2022-2027 period passing through the northern province, with a total cost of VND5.2 trillion ($228.1 million). The stretch has a total length of 35.3 km and passes through Bac Ninh city and the three districts of Thuan Thanh, Que Vo, and Gia Binh.
Despite being the smallest locality in the country in terms of area, northern Bac Ninh province ranked first last year in terms of industrial production value, second in goods export turnover, and eighth in gross regional domestic product (GRDP). It has also become a magnet for new generation FDI flows. These development steps create the foundation for it to change into a modern industrial city in the future.
Data from real estate platform Batdongsan.com reveals that while investor interest in most of the country’s property markets has fallen sharply due to Covid-19, northern Bac Giang and Bac Ninh province continue to attract widespread attention, with interest in the former rising 22 per cent and the latter 44 per cent from June to July.
The Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee has issued Document No. 2376/UBND-XDCB to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on the planning of Thuan Thanh Port on 45 ha in the northern province. It has also decided to establish the Yen Trung - Thuy Hoa industrial cluster on an area of 50 ha and with total investment of nearly VND783.9 billion ($34.21 million).
