Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved two programs on rural development in August, including the Digital Transformation Program on building new rural areas towards a “smart new countryside” in the 2021-2025 period, and a program to strengthen environmental protection, food safety, and clean water supply in new rural area construction in the 2021-2025 period.
To achieve the ambitious goals set out in the national strategy on rural water supply and sanitation to 2030 and vision to 2045, UNICEF has recommended that Vietnam focus on three core issues. The first is smart investment, which is both sufficient in quantity and appropriate. Vietnam will not be able to build a green, circular economy if it ignores the issue of clean water and rural sanitation.
