The 220 kV Kien Binh - Phu Quoc transmission line, the longest offshore overhead power transmission line in Southeast Asia at 80.4 km and with total investment of over VND2.2 trillion ($90.4 million), was put into operation on October 14. The line will increase the power supply capacity for Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province by about five-fold compared to the current load and will meet needs to 2035.
On March 5, in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) opened the Cai Lon - Cai Be irrigation network in the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province. The project is the largest super irrigation project in the country, with total investment of more than VND3.3 trillion ($143.9 million), and is expected to help irrigation and prevent drought.
The leader of Kien Giang province has said that the new outbreak of Covid-19 will not affect plans to pilot the reopening of Phu Quoc Island to international visitors.
