Agriculture expected to reach 2022 targets
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien told VnEconomy / VET that the agriculture sector is facing many opportunities and challenges but it is perfectly feasible it will reach its targets in 2022, such as growth of 2.8-3 per cent and export turnover of $50-55 billion. To do so, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue its administrative reforms and digital transformation and boost investment attraction.

MARD to look at cutting animal feed imports
Vietnam must currently import 22.3 million tons of raw materials for animal feed each year. In order to reduce such imports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is developing a scheme to boost animal feed processing in each region.

MARD suggests solutions to boost agri exports
In the context of difficulties in exporting agricultural products by road, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has said it is necessary to diversify modes of transport specifically for such products, including transport by sea, to boost exports to China and other markets.

Climate change adaptation project launched
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and five provinces in the central highlands and south-central coast have launched a $30 million climate change adaptation project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), to strengthen the resilience of small-scale agriculture and water security.

MARD proposes increase to rice reserves
Rice prices are falling steeply as traders limit or end purchasing, so the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has proposed that the government increase rice reserves to support farmers and be ready to meet increasing export demand from other countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has said that food supplies are relatively abundant in Vietnam’s south but consumption has fallen due to social distancing measures being introduced, with some agricultural products now exceeding demand.
