According to Article 42 of the 2025 Employment Law, employers will be eligible for this assistance when facing situations that affect, or threaten to affect, the jobs of a large number of employees participating in the unemployment insurance program.
After 25 days of implementing a Resolution from the National Assembly on the payment of support for employees who have submitted unemployment insurance claims, nearly 359,000 have received support from the Unemployment Insurance Fund totaling more than VND1 trillion ($42.7 million). Twenty-eight localities have completed all payments.
At a working session with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 8, Vietnam Social Security set a target of 23.1 million people participating in social insurance by the end of 2025 and 18 million in unemployment insurance, accounting for 45 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively, of the workforce, while the health insurance coverage is to be 95 million people, or 95 per cent of the population.
As of December 6, more than 12.4 million workers had received support totaling nearly VND30 trillion ($1.31 billion) from the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
The Hanoi Center for Employee Services has received applications for unemployment insurance from over 53,000 workers since the beginning of the year, down 20 per cent year-on-year.
As of October 25, social security agencies had provided financial support from the unemployment insurance fund to more than 5 million employees, totaling more than VND12.3 trillion ($542.45 million).
Vietnam Social Security will reduce the contributions to unemployment insurance funds by 381,925 businesses, with a total amount of over VND7.6 trillion ($334.1 million). More than 7,400 employees have received support payments from the Fund, totaling over VND20 billion ($879,350).
