General Director of Vietnam Railways Dang Sy Manh told the 42nd ASEAN Railway Directors General Meeting, held in Da Nang from August 23 to 25, that Vietnam’s railway development orientation is to promote freight transport and open international links.
Total funding of VND3 trillion ($131.54 million) will go to the maintenance of Vietnam’s national railway infrastructure in 2022, an increase of VND2 billion ($87,700) compared to 2021. Vietnam Railways lost more than VND900 billion ($39.48 million) last year due to the pandemic. This year, if the pandemic is brought under control and the government’s economic stimulus packages are effective, the railway industry may see stability and avoid further losses.
