HCMC posts tourism revenue of $267mln during Tet

Ho Chi Minh City recorded tourism revenue of VND6.55 trillion ($267 million) during the seven-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday from January 8-14, a year-on-year increase of 4 per cent, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

It welcomed 75,000 foreign tourists during the break, up 15 per cent compared to last year, the majority of whom were from Europe, the US, Australia, and Japan.

The increases were attributed to the city’s organization of activities to welcome in the Lunar New Year of the Dragon and its efforts to improve the quality of its tourism offerings.

The southern city has set a target of welcoming 6 million international visitors in 2024 and catering to 38 million domestic tourists. Total tourism revenue is expected to hit VND190 trillion ($7.75 billion).
