CBRE has forecast that hotel operations in Hanoi will improve over the course of 2022, with room tariffs at 4 and 5-star hotels rising 15 per cent and occupancy reaching 52 per cent, up 21 percentage points compared to 2021. Tourism recovery to boost economy

Tourism is an important economic sector in Vietnam and its contribution peaked in 2019, welcoming 18 million international arrivals and representing 9.2 per cent of GDP, but has been frozen for the past two years due to Covid-19. With the full reopening of international tourism from March 15, Vietnam is expected to earn VND400 trillion ($17.56 billion) from the sector this year.

The Prime Minister has approved the task of general planning to build the Ninh Chu national tourist area in south-central Ninh Thuan province to 2045. It will be a national tourist area, with a focus on tourism activities and exploiting diverse marine values and ecological landscape values. The planning area is about 12,200 ha, of which land covers 10,200 ha and the sea 2,000 ha.

According to analysts, the tourism and aviation sectors must quickly seize the opportunities to recover. Infrastructure barriers must be removed, tourism and aviation development policies need to be more open, and international flights must resume as soon as possible. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has said it is necessary to exempt unilateral visas for citizens from 24 countries and territories entering Vietnam and to apply electronic visas for citizens from 46 countries and territories. It has also proposed conducting the second phase of the program welcoming international tourists until March 30, and to fully open up international tourism from March 31.

HCMC kicks off waterway tours

After closing down due to the pandemic, Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism sector has introduced a new product: waterway tours along the Bach Dang River in its Can Gio district. The city has also coordinated with south-central Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, and Binh Dinh provinces to restore tourism activities from November 1.
