2025 completion for Eastern North-South Expressway
North-central and central coastal regions expected to have additional 1,200 km of expressway.
The Ministry of Transport will strive to put the eastern North-South Expressway into operation by 2025, increasing the total length of expressways in the north-central and central coastal regions from 193 km to 1,390 km, according to Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang.
Speaking at a conference on February 5 regarding the implementation of the government’s action plan to materialize Politburo Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW dated November 3, 2022 on orientations for socio-economic development and national defense and security in the north-central and central coastal regions by 2030 with a vision to 2045, Minister Thang said the ministry will also target completing the coastal road and upgrade national highways that are listed in the mid-term public investment plan.
The ministry will complete expressways with large traffic flows by 2030, such as Vinh - Thanh Thuy and Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot, and will call for investment in expressways connecting Cam Lo - Lao Bao, Da Nang - Thach My - Ngoc Hoi - Bo Y, and Quy Nhon - Pleiku.
It will also continue upgrades to effectively exploit the North-South railway line and prepare to kick off construction of the North-South high-speed railway line, develop the seaport network, upgrade nine existing airports, and invest in building Phan Thiet and Quang Tri airports.
