4M seafood export fetches $2.7 bln

Seafood export revenue in the first four months of 2024 was estimated at $2.7 billion, up 6% year-on-year, figures from the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) show.

In April alone, seafood export fetched $770 million, a year-on-year surge of 4%.

Exports of tuna, tra fish, crab, and shell mollusks all recorded positive growth compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, shrimp export reached $285 million in April, the highest figure since the early year, bringing the total value of shrimp export in the first four months to $971 million, soaring by over 6% compared to the same period last year.

Exports of tra fish in April started to recover after declining for two consecutive months. The export value was estimated at $168 million, a significant increase of 13% year-on-year,  resulting in the total export revenue of $579 million in the four-month period, up 2% year-on-year.

Notably, tuna exports in April surged by 28% to $86 million, raising the total export turnover of the product in the first four months to $301 million, soaring by 22% year-on-year.

By April, crab exports had maintained an impressive growth of 101%, with China being the main market.
