AB InBev working towards sustainability and community impact in Vietnam

Sustainability has become a critical discussion point globally and is gaining traction among businesses in Vietnam, particularly in light of the government’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. However, the implementation of sustainable practices remains in its early stages in the country. Against this backdrop, companies like AB InBev are stepping forward with initiatives designed to integrate sustainability into their operations and broader business strategies.
During a recent roundtable discussion entitled “Investing in a Sustainable Future”, organized by Saigon Times, Mr. Craig MacLean, Managing Director at AB InBev Vietnam, highlighted the company’s approach to sustainability, emphasizing its role in supporting local economies. “Beer is produced and its ingredients are grown locally, so we understand the true value of our responsibility to our communities,” he said. “Sustainability is a key component of our value chain, spanning water, agriculture, climate, packaging, and smart drinking. As the world’s leading brewer, we are pursuing innovation and partnerships to build resilience and create shared prosperity across our value chain and communities.”
AB InBev leverages its 600 years of heritage to drive industry innovation while fostering inclusivity and sustainability. In Vietnam, the company focuses on protecting clean water, promoting responsible drinking through its Global Smart Drinking program, expanding its product portfolio to reach diverse consumers, making meaningful contributions to local communities, and empowering its 700 employees to lead impactful change.
In Vietnam, its commitment to sustainability extends to its workforce. On November 19, the company was recognized by Anphabe for the fourth consecutive year as one of the enterprises with the best working environments in Vietnam. AB InBev attributes this achievement to its focus on employee development.
The company sees its 700-strong workforce in Vietnam as central to driving change and achieving its goals. Mr. MacLean noted that training and empowering employees is a key part of AB InBev’s strategy. “Better-trained human resources contribute significantly not only to the company but also to the country,” he explained. “Employee development is not just a commitment but a core goal in AB InBev’s business operations in Southeast Asia.”
