The Politburo has decided to establish the Central Steering Committee for Science and Technology Development and Digital Transformation led by Party General Secretary To Lam, according to a report from the Government News

This is part of the Politburo's Resolution No. 57/2024 on science and technology development and digital transformation signed by the Party General Secretary on December 22.

The Resolution targets to turn Vietnam into one of the leading upper middle-income countries in terms of science and technology and innovation capabilities while the level of science and technology and innovation of businesses is expected to reach above the world average, by the end of this decade.

The Resolution also aims to turn Vietnam into one of the three leading countries in Southeast Asia and one of three top 50 countries in the world in terms of digital competitiveness and e-government rankings.

Under its new resolution, the Politburo targets to turn Vietnam into one of the three leading countries in Southeast Asia in terms of artificial intelligence research and development, a development hub of several digital industries that Vietnam has advantages.

The value of high-tech exports is expected to account for at least 50 per cent of the country's total export turnover while digital economy is projected to reach 30 per cent of its GDP.

The Resolution targets to raise the cashless payment ratio to 80 per cent and investments for research and development to 2 per cent of the country's GDP.

By 2045, digital economy is projected to account for 50 per cent of the country's GDP, according to the Resolution.
