Construction of second runway proposed for Long Thanh airport project
Total investment capital for the projected runway estimated at $139 million.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has proposed the Ministry of Transport to build the second runway for Long Thanh International Airport project with an estimated investment capital of nearly VND3.5 trillion ($139 million).
The ACV proposed the 4,000-m runway which would in parallel with the first one.
Construction of the second runway, together with taxiways and signal lights, is estimated to cost VND3.455 trillion ($137.8 million), which will be mobilized by the ACV.
The second runway will be developed inside the 1,810-ha cleared and leveled land for the first phase of the airport project.
The ACV also proposed the leveling of the site for the T3 terminal, covering 181 ha with an estimated investment capital of over VND1.95 trillion ($78 million). It will be funded through public investment.
The Long Thanh International Airport, located in southern Dong Nai province, will have total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($13.42 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
The first phase has total investment of nearly VND110 trillion ($4.38 billion), with construction of the passenger terminal and a runway getting underway last August.
The terminal will be able to cater to 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
The airport (first phase) is expected to be put into official operation in early June 2026.
