These will help cut time and cost for importers and exporters.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a decision approving the construction of two new container berths at the Lach Huyen wharf area of Hai Phong Port in northern Hai Phong city.

Construction of container berths No. 7 and 8 will have estimated total investment of nearly VND13 trillion ($548 million).

Each berth will have a total length of 750 meters and be capable of receiving ships between 12,000-18,000 TEUs.

The Prime Minister’s decision said the construction of the two berths in Lach Huyen wharf at Hai Phong Port is aimed at meeting targets set by Vietnam’s maritime strategy and cementing planning for the port system.

It will also help meet needs for exports and imports in the northern region to and from European and American markets, contributing to reducing time and costs for businesses.

Trial operation of the first two berths at Lach Huyen wharf proved effective in saving maritime transportation and logistics costs for businesses. They were put into operation in May 2018.

The four other berths, including berths No. 3, 4, 5 and 6, are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by 2025.
