Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism has been a positive performer in central Da Nang city for a number of years.

Prior to the fourth outbreak of Covid-19 earlier this year, the city’s tourism sector had exploited MICE through support policies and incentives to attract business visitors in combination with sightseeing, tourism, and relaxation, and welcomed dozens of delegations, with more than 3,100 guests attending conferences and seminars and taking tours while staying at resorts.

According to a survey by Da Nang’s tourism sector on 50 travel agencies in three cities - Da Nang, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City - 69 per cent said they have demand from customers for events in the MICE form and nearly 65 per cent choose Da Nang as the destination for such events. Boosting MICE is one initiative to change the direction of the city’s tourism sector and adapt and effectively control the pandemic.

Delegations such as the Vietnam Conference on Surgery or Laparoscopic Surgery choosing Da Nang as the venue for MICE events will not only be a good opportunity for medical staff in the city to remain up-to-date on professional knowledge but will also enable the local tourism sector to restore operations after the pandemic, according to Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People’s Committee.
