To have a basis for continuing to research, invest, and develop Cat Bi International Airport in northern Hai Phong city in the long term, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has approved the task of formulating and adjusting planning in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2025, which is expected to be completed later this year.

In the period to 2030, the airport is to have a capacity of about 13 million passengers per year, and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is now implementing the necessary projects.

The T2 terminal will be built, with a capacity of welcoming about 5 million passengers a year, to be expanded to 10 million, as well as a cargo terminal capable of handling 100,000 tons per year. Upon completion and combined with the existing infrastructure at Cat Bi International Airport, these projects will meet the needs of the airport and also serve socio-economic development in Hai Phong.

The MoT has proposed the city’s People’s Committee direct agencies and units to coordinate in the early issuance of land use right certificates to the Northern Airport Authority, as a basis for carrying out procedures for land allocation and lease, so the investment schedule will be met and planning fulfilled. The study of a second airport in the city’s Tien Lang district is also being carried out by MoT.
