Ha Tinh province has set a goal of making logistics a key factor in its economic development and that of Vietnam’s north-central region, under a provincial plan for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.

It will continue to prioritize transport infrastructure connecting seaports and border gates, upgrading and expanding arterial roads such as from Bai Vot - Vung Ang and building a railway line connecting the Vung Ang Economic Zone with the Lao capital Vientiane. Laos is also considered a market of potential for Ha Tinh in import-export services.

The province currently has eight national highways within its borders acting as inter-regional and international links. Two expressways are to be built: the 108-km-long stretch of the East North-South Expressway in the 2021-2025 period, and the Vung Ang Expressway from the Vung Ang Economic Zone to the Cha Lo Border Gate in neighboring Quang Binh province, after 2030.

Ha Tinh has major potential for developing seaports, shipping, infrastructure, and logistics services not only for the north-central region but also for Laos, northeast Thailand, and southern China, according to Mr. Bui Van Quy, Deputy General Director of the Saigon Newport Corporation.

An export policy associated with logistics development is needed to support transportation costs and storage costs at Vung Ang Port as well as bolster trade promotions with enterprises in Laos and northeast Thailand.
