Hai Duong province went through a number of social distancing periods in 2021 and saw many major factories close their doors, but has now put every effort into finding the best solutions for pandemic control to minimize the damage.

January 28, 2021, was a historic milestone in northern Hai Duong province’s battle against Covid-19. Despite being cautious, the pandemic still broke out at one of its largest foreign-invested enterprises.

Since that day, people in the province have experienced many periods of large-scale social distancing, and large factories at its industrial parks have also had to close.

Local authorities were under pressure going back and forth between hotspots to find the fastest and most effective solutions to control the outbreak, while at the same time minimizing the risk of damage to businesses.

Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, Hai Duong has put all of its efforts into finding the best solutions to control the pandemic and at the same time minimize the damage to businesses. The province believes that this will be a foundation for economic growth in 2022.

Hai Duong’s story of finding markets for its lychees in the middle of the pandemic can be considered a typical example of the solidarity of local authorities, people, and businesses when facing Covid-19.

The 2021 lychee crop ripened during the outbreak, but authorities, people, and businesses connected with digital platforms to put the fruit on domestic e-commerce platforms and even promoted and sold them online via Facebook. The province also searched for other channels to develop new domestic and foreign markets.

Thanks to a combination of solutions, lychee farmers in Hai Duong spectacularly overcame the situation. Thousands of hectares of lychee were sold at a high price, instead of going to waste.

“2021 was a year that Hai Duong faced many difficulties and challenges due to Covid-19, especially the third outbreak during the Lunar New Year,” said Mr. Pham Xuan Thang, Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee. “However, with a spirit of ‘Surpassing difficulties - Speeding up’, local Party committees and authorities, the business community, and the people united and made great efforts to overcome the difficulties, control the pandemic, protect people’s health, and carry out socio-economic development tasks, posting many remarkable and important achievements from such efforts.”

It has been forecast that there will continue to be difficulties in 2022 in the development and implementation of Hai Duong’s tasks, including the new Omicron variant. According to provincial authorities, Hai Duong will continue to promote solidarity, unity, and the strength of the entire political system and the response and consensus of all people and the business community to fulfill requirements and tasks.

With encouraging results from 2021, Hai Duong is confident about 2022, with the theme “Flexible adaptation, breakthrough growth”, according to Mr. Thang. The province will expand investment promotion, not only focusing on attracting FDI into industry and agriculture but also fields such as healthcare, education, trade, and tourism.
