HCM City plans to transport passengers to Long Thanh airport via waterways
Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province schedued to operate from 2026.
The Ho Chi Minh City Transport Department has proposed to transport passengers by waterways from the city to the Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province once it is put into operation in 2026 as scheduled.
It is aimed at easing traffic problems and creating new tourism opportunities.
Under the proposal, passengers can be transported by speedboats or ferries.
The department said the plan will make use of existing ports and wharfs along the route from HCM City to Dong Nai province, thus helping to reducing investment cost while facilitating people’s travelling.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has recently directed the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to speed up construction of the airport in order to complete the project and put it into operation in the first half of 2026.
Long Thanh Airport has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($13.74 billion).
It is being built on an area of 5,000 ha in Dong Nai with a total final capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo annually.
