High-speed railway to be submitted to the NA for consideration
Total investment capital estimated at some $58.71 billion.
The Politburo agreed to seek the Party Central Committee’s approval of the investment policy for the North-South express railway project before it is submitted by the Government to the 15th National Assembly for consideration at its upcoming 8th session, scheduled for October.
At a meeting held in Hanoi on September 18 to discuss the project, the Politburo concluded that it is a highly important and necessary infrastructure work.
The project aims to meet the growing transportation demand, contributing to the optimal and sustainable restructuring of the transport market along the North-South corridor. It aligns with the Party’s policies and orientations for transportation infrastructure investment, as outlined in the national development strategy under the 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution and national planning schemes.
It is expected to contribute to enhancing regional and inter-regional connectivity, opening up new economic development spaces, and restructuring urban areas, thereby enhancing the economy's competitiveness.
The project will help meet transport demand along the North-South corridor and reduce logistics costs as well as reduce traffic accidents and mitigate environmental pollution.
It is considered a growth driver for the railway industry and the supporting industry.
The North-South high-speed railway will stretch 1,545 km through 20 provinces and cities.
It will have a speed limit of about 320 kph, with total investment capital estimated at some $58.71 billion.
